As the first month of 2025 comes to an end, I find myself reflecting on a journey that has been both personal and professional. This year marks the 7th anniversary of Dávila Kafe, a milestone that holds a lot of significance in our family’s story. Through ups and downs, triumphs and challenges, we’ve continued to grow our business, all while exploring the world together. The experiences we’ve shared, have not only deepened our appreciation for coffee but also strengthened the bonds within our family.

Here’s a look back at the year that was, and how it shaped our coffee journey at Dávila Kafe.

2024: A Year of Growth for Dávila Kafe

When we first started Dávila Kafe seven years ago, we had no idea how the journey would unfold. What started as a small idea quickly grew into something more meaningful than we could have ever imagined. In 2024, we celebrated the milestones we’ve achieved, from launching new blends to expanding our community of coffee lovers. Our dedication to sustainably sourced coffee beans and our commitment to quality have always been at the core of what we do. But, what made last year truly special are the memories we made along the way — especially during our travels to coffee farms.

Family Adventures: Exploring Coffee Farms with David and Xavier

Xavier and I (David) visited our friend Samuel in Nicaragua, where we harvested the beans that bring you our Rubén Darío, and Estelí single origins. Together we witnessed the craftsmanship and dedication that goes into producing the beans we love so much.

What made this trip priceless was sharing the experience, and return to the coffee fields with my father, grandfather, and uncles. Four generations of coffee lovers together witnessing what our family did for generations before us. It was an adventure that brought us closer together as a family while giving us a deeper understanding of the coffee production process in Central America. From picking beans to cupping beautifully crafted coffee varietals, we shared hands-on experiences, and the spark of curiosity in Xavier’s eyes was unmatched as he asked questions about the coffee plant’s life cycle and encouraged our community to grab their bags. The trip left a lasting impression on all of us, reinforcing our commitment to sourcing the best beans and supporting sustainable farming practices.

But that was just the beginning.

A Puerto Rican Coffee Farm Experience

Later in the year, we traveled to Puerto Rico for another coffee farm adventure — this time with Gaï and our youngest son Maël. The beauty of Puerto Rico’s coffee farms, nestled in the mountains, connected us to our roots. The visit was particularly special for me, as I grew up with an appreciation for Puerto Rican coffee, which has always been close to my heart because of my mother's Puerto Rican heritage. So, yes, as a Puerto Rican I am biased.

While visiting, we had the opportunity to tour one of the island’s oldest coffee farms, learning about its unique growing conditions, history, and techniques that were passed down through generations. Xavier was fascinated by the process, and we had a blast sharing this cultural experience as a family. We even got to taste freshly brewed coffee made from beans harvested just a few days before. The rich, smooth flavors of the Puerto Rican coffee left us all in awe, and we knew at that moment we'd have to find a way to share the experience with our Dávila Kafe community for years to come.

What We’ve Learned and What’s Next...

I’m incredibly proud of how far Dávila Kafe has come. Our trips to coffee farms were a reminder of why we do what we do — it’s about more than just coffee; it’s about people, connection, culture, craftmanship, and appreciation for the hard work that goes into every cup.

Looking ahead to the rest of 2025, we plan to expand our offerings, introducing new blends inspired by our travels and partnering with coffee farmers we’ve met along the way. There’s so much more to explore in the world of coffee, and we can’t wait to bring those experiences to you.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us on this incredible journey so far. We’re grateful for the community we’ve built alongside you, and we’re excited for what the future holds.
